Civil Defense officers shoots at students in Abuja
Two students from Senior Secondary School, Life Camp in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) were shot on Wednesday morning by three Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) personnel. The incident occurred around 11:20 am.
In response to the attack on their injured peers, some angry students engaged in a violent protest, damaging three NSCDC patrol vehicles. The two students with gunshot wounds are presently undergoing treatment at Gwarinpa Hospital.
Sources suggest that NSCDC officers were deployed to the school for security during an ongoing examination, but it remains unclear what prompted the shooting or the victims’ identities.
The FCT Police Command confirmed the incident, assuring that peace and order have been restored in the affected area. Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, stated, “The incident happened, but our operatives intervened in time to restore law and order. The environment is now peaceful. Two injured students are receiving treatment, and Commissioner of Police, Haruna Garba, has ordered an investigation into the incident.”
