As the first anniversary of his administration approaches on May 29, 2024, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to commission a range of projects across the country. The President departed Abuja on Saturday for Lagos, where he will kick-start the commissioning of projects completed under his administration.
On Sunday, President Tinubu will inaugurate the newly paved road leading to Apapa and Tin Can Island ports, a project initiated during the previous administration and financed by the Dangote Group through tax credits. He will also virtually commission the refurbished Third Mainland Bridge and the rehabilitation of 330 roads and bridges nationwide.
The highlight of Sunday’s engagements will be the inauguration of the iconic Lagos-Calabar Superhighway, a legacy project estimated to cost around N15 trillion, which will connect nine coastal states. Work has begun on the project, with Section Two already awarded to Hitech Construction Limited.
The President will return to Abuja on Tuesday to inaugurate the Southern Parkway, named after him by the FCT administration, and attend the National Assembly Dialogue Series. He will also unveil the National Assembly Complex, named in his honor, on Wednesday.
Additionally, President Tinubu will relaunch the commercialization of the Abuja Light Rail, also known as Abuja Metro, which was completed in 2018 but ceased operations in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. After extensive refurbishment efforts, the rail service is set to resume commercial operations.
The President will also inaugurate the Wuye Flyover-Link Bridge and the Defence Intelligence Agency Headquarters, as well as the NASENI-Portland Compressed Natural Gas Reverse Engineering Centre at Utako on May 31, marking another milestone in his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development.
The project commissioning spree highlights President Tinubu’s dedication to advancing Nigeria’s infrastructure and signifies significant progress achieved within his first year in office.
