The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed the potential merger talks between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party, describing the move as a desperate attempt by Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi to gain power.
According to the APC, the meeting between Atiku and Obi was driven by their mutual desire to prevent President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027. The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, stated that the two opposition leaders are united by their desperation to become president and their disdain for President Tinubu’s commitment to transforming the nation.
Morka questioned the trustworthiness of Atiku and Obi, citing their history of political wandering and inability to build or fix their own parties. He urged Nigerians to stand firm in their support for the APC and President Tinubu’s efforts to deliver a stronger, secure, and more prosperous country.
The APC’s statement comes after Obi’s visit to Atiku’s Abuja residence, which sparked speculation of a potential alliance between the two opposition leaders. Atiku had previously called for unity among major opposition parties, expressing his willingness to lead a coalition against President Tinubu in 2027.
The APC’s dismissal of the potential merger talks highlights the ongoing political tensions and maneuvering ahead of the 2027 elections.
