The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has arraigned Awuawe Clement, the former registrar of Benue State School of Health Technology in Agasha, for alleged admission racketeering. Clement is accused of collecting and diverting N4,466,500 from unsuspecting admission seekers into the institution.
According to ICPC spokesperson Demola Bakare, Clement was charged with making false statements to commission officers during the investigation, an offense under Section 25(1)(a) of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act 2000. Clement pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The allegations state that Clement sold admission forms to prospective students after the institution had closed sales for the year, using his position for personal gain. This is punishable under Section 19 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act 2000.
Clement’s bail was granted in the sum of N2,000,000 with one surety, who must be a public or civil servant. The case has been adjourned to December 12, 2024, for hearing.
