Tinubu and Obasanjo Attend Uzodimma’s Second-Term Swearing-In

16th January 2024In a momentous ceremony on Monday, the Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma, embarked on his second term in office, accompanied by his deputy, Lady Chinyere Ekomaru.

Uzodimma, the seventh elected governor of the state and a member of the All Progressives Congress, took the oath of office at approximately 3:47 pm, with his deputy following suit around 3:30 pm. Both were sworn in by Chief Judge Justice Theresa Chikeka.

Notable figures in attendance included President Bola Tinubu and former President Olusegun Obasanjo. The gathering also saw the presence of dignitaries such as Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, Abia State Governor Alex Otti, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, as well as former governors Rochas Okorocha and Ikedi Ohakim of Imo State.The ceremony welcomed traditional leaders, including the Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Ogunwusi; the Obi of Onitsha, Nnaemeka Achebe; King Jaja of Opobo, Dandeson Douglas Jaja, and Etsu of Nupe, Yahaya Abubakar

.In his address, Governor Uzodimma expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support received during the November 11, 2023, governorship election. He referred to this support as a social contract and pledged not to disappoint the people in his second term.Uzodimma outlined his administration’s policy focus, emphasizing the provision of infrastructure and the welfare of workers, including timely salary payments.

He unveiled the Community Economic Development Initiative, aiming to empower rural communities across the state with significant local projects.Encouraging active citizen participation, the governor called on the people to contribute to building the Imo State of their dreams, stressing that the state belonged to all.

He also pledged to create an enabling environment for investors, envisioning Imo State as an industrial hub in the South-East during his second term.Credit: Punch News
