House of Assembly to set up a task force committee on food prices; bans exportation of food to other….

In an effort to reduce food inflation, the Sokoto State House of Assembly has passed a resolution requesting that the state government forbid the export of food products to nearby nations.

This came after Shamsu Aliyu (APC-Wurno) adopted a motion on a subject of urgent public significance during Wednesday’s plenary in Sokoto. When presenting the motion, Aliyu explained that the issue was related to the people’s financial struggles brought on by excessive inflation.

He declared, “This has had a significant impact on the livelihood of individuals and families throughout our state and throughout Nigeria.”

The congressman also stressed that, in light of the most recent World Bank report on food security, the government needed to take the appropriate action.

He emphasised that, according to the assessment, seven states in the nation, including Sokoto, would experience food insecurity beginning in May.

Aliyu stated that the state’s citizens were extremely concerned about the projection and voiced concern about businessmen’s practices of stockpiling food and raising prices at the expense of the general public.

In order to guarantee execution of the necessary actions, he stated, “the government needs to set up a task force committee on food prices and collaborate with relevant stakeholders.”

The PDP’s Akhaji Bashar Isah (Tambuwal East) stressed the importance of the government giving the welfare of the populace top priority. The legislator characterised the state government’s beautifying initiative in the city as pertinent given the people’s economic struggles.”As a government, we must always put the needs of our people first and refrain from focusing on areas that are less important in order to lessen the many difficulties we face today,” he declared. The proposal was then put to a voice vote by Speaker Alhaji Tukur Bala and passed by all of the legislators.
