Youth Development Minister Unveils Plans to Reform and Restructure NYSC
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme is set for a major overhaul, as the Minister of Youth Development, Jamila Bio-Ibrahim has announced plans to begin reforms and restructuring of the programme. A team will be inaugurated soon to lead the review and reform process.
The minister made the announcement at a meeting with heads of corps-producing institutions in Abuja, stating that the first phase of reforms will focus on entrepreneurship and skills development.
Over 5,000 corps members will receive funding of up to N10 million for their business ventures, with the goal of creating a self-sustaining and revenue-generating programme within five years.

The NYSC Director-General, Brig. Gen. Yushau’ Ahmed, emphasized the importance of enhancing the mobilisation process and eliminating obstacles to ensure a seamless experience for prospective corps members.
He reiterated the NYSC’s commitment to the security and welfare of corps members and appealed for support from stakeholders.
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Administration, Nyesom Wike, commended the NYSC for inviting stakeholders to brainstorm strategies for success and acknowledged the scheme’s commitment to national development and integration, despite challenges faced.
