Army Detains 15 Suspects, Recovers Weapons
During Operation Hakorin Damisa IV, spanning from November 6 to 13, 2023, troops of Operation Safe Haven apprehended 15 individuals linked to offenses such as kidnapping, murder, arms trade, criminal assaults, cattle rustling, drug trafficking, and farm destruction. The successful operation also led to the retrieval of ammunition and illicit substances, as detailed in a statement released on the Nigerian Army Facebook page on Tuesday.
The statement highlighted Operation Safe Haven’s accomplishment in securing the conviction of two suspects, Zubairu Usman and Saminu Haruna, charged with criminal conspiracy and theft. Both suspects pleaded guilty and received a two-year imprisonment sentence each, with the option of a fine.
In total, 15 suspects faced arrest for various crimes: two for kidnapping, one for arms dealing, two for murder, four for illicit drug trafficking, and four for farm destruction. Two individuals were convicted for engaging in criminal activities. Notably, the operation resulted in the rescue of two kidnapped victims, thwarting four attacks on vulnerable communities, and promptly responding to seven distress calls.
