Police Unseal Rivers State Local Government Secretariats

The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Bala Mustapha, has ordered the unsealing of the 23 local government secretariats, following a directive from Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

The decision comes after Governor Siminalayi Fubara sworn in newly elected chairmen from Saturday’s local government elections. The secretariats were sealed in July due to a crisis over tenure extension of former chairmen.

Police personnel have been withdrawn, but will be redeployed if needed to maintain law and order. The Rivers State Police Command assures its commitment to peace and neutrality.
